How to wear a statement necklace

Accessories are a girl’s best friend. It’s amazing how a pair of quirky earrings or a tribal necklace can spice up any outfit in a jiffy. You might be wearing the perfect dress but a gorgeous accessory can really finish off your look in the way you always wanted. All you need is an exotic piece that will make heads turn and bring together your other outfit components together.

While some people love earrings, a statement necklace works for me better. And what I found recently in Jabong really stole my heart away as it literally had all my favourite things all in one piece.

  • A cute inscription
  • Metallic
  • Not too shiny that you cant wear it during the day

Check it out

Isn’t it gorgeous?

True to its name, the shining Diva Golden Alloy necklace will make you look like a diva in a heartbeat. Not for the faint hearted, the necklace will serve its purpose.. i.e. make a statement wherever you go. I also love the ‘faith’ inscription on the necklace. So cute!

What’s it made of: This metallic necklace is made from alloy and is durable and skin friendly. I didn’t get any skin irritations or rashes unlike other metallic pieces which can cause skin allergies.

How to wear it: The necklace will look great for both a day and night look when paired with trendy western outfits. For a day look we suggest pairing this piece with a white playsuit and a light cape to brighten up the day in style. For a glamorous night out, layer this necklace with a black maxi dress or a wrap dress. Remember to keep the rest of the look minimal and let the necklace be the highlight of your look. If Indian is your style, then pair this gorgeous piece with a saree and you will be the belle of the ball.

Fashion’s Day out at ‘Out of the Box’

Curated fashion and lifestyle exhibitions have become the order of the day with the city buzzing with different gorgeous popups almost every week. There is something exciting about these events where you can put your best eye forward and score some really unique and quirky stuff to add to your wardrobe. Recently I attended the Out of the Box exhibition by ‘Celebrity Safes’ held at Tote on the Turf, Mahalakshmi and enjoyed every moment of it. Out Of The Box is a luxury lifestyle exhibition for upcoming and established entrepreneurs from the fashion, décor and gourmet industry. They have handpicked homegrown brands from across India to give the consumers a unique shopping experience all under one roof.

Though it was around 2 PM on a weekday when I entered Tote, the place was buzzing with shoppers, collegians, bloggers etc. Most of the stalls were laden with pre-festive goodies and I could see people lapping it up. Ladies were hauling over-flowing shopping bags around and there was a sound of organized chaos in the vicinity. Though the flow of shoppers were non-stop there was no sign of frantic disarray which I whole heartedly appreciated. I weaved through the crowd to check out the stalls. From shoes to jewellery, maxi tops, embroidered tunics, bejeweled bags to organic skin products, candles, massages and paintings, Out of the box had something for everyone. In addition to fashion and lifestyle there were delicious food stalls to satiate the hunger from hours of bargain hunting. There was a light music playing in the background further upping the shopping experience. I met some of the designers who were enthusiastic to talk about their collections and scoured through some awesome stalls for some really unique must have pieces.

Here are some of the stalls that caught my eye:

Pretty slings and clutches by Aaks Accessories (Mumbai based). These are ultra cute and very vintage. The embellishments are a work of pure art!!

Aaks Accessories

The delightful collection from Broderie (Mumbai based) is a festive must-have. The colour palette and their range of tunics and tops are really chic. They specialize in premium quality customized embroidery and tailoring.

These gorgeous accessories from the House of BioThey have some really luxe bags and accessories. The cuffs and the statement neck-pieces is every fashionistas dream

In addition to music, shopping and laughter, Out of the Box is also encouraging people to shop for a cause where in a part of the proceeds from the exhibition will be going towards the empowerment of women and education of the girl child. Not only will a portion of the sales be donated to worthy causes, but we could also interact with NGO’s Asha Sadan, Savera, Sai NGO cancer support, Helping Hand Foundation, Deeds, Supavitram and Ismailia Helping Society, who were participating at the event. These organisations have been actively doing humanitarian work for children, women and senior citizens.

What I like most about these popups are the customized products that you stumble on. Also you get to buy products from these quirky brands which aren’t always available online. So if you are a shopping addict like me, these pop-ups will be your dream come true for sure. Eagerly waiting for the second edition!!

The ring story..

Accessories are an essential part of a daily outfit. It has the power to change a basic t-shirt into something very gorgeous in a minute. While neckpieces and handcuffs are the primary go to for us, we often overlook the dainty finger rings which are just as equally important. ‘Good things come in small packages’ is one apt quote for these beauties. Currently the market is flooded with rings of all shapes and sizes- midi rings to cocktail rings, embellished, with pearls, stones etc. In short everything that you little heart desires.

I personally favor statement rings with intricate work or something with pearls. While the pearls could be worn for a day look and instantly add a touch of class to your ootd, the statement rings look great for an evening look. Below are some of my more recent looks with the current must-haves this season.

  1. This pearl and lip ring will add just the correct amount of jazz and class to any outfit.

Ring: The Red Box

2. This Filigree detailed ring reminds me of all things vintage. Very royal, very pretty

Ring: Atelier Mon (Available in Pernia’s pop-up shop)

3. The jeweled lip ring is blingy and sparkly. Best for painting the town red

The quintessential maxi dress…

I love maxi dresses. They are the most versatile piece of clothing that every girl should own. The best part about maxi dresses is that, they can be styled up or down depending on the time and the occasion. Currently, we are totally  spoilt for choice with the different variations available in the market; from animal prints to pastels, to embellished ones, to the simple cotton ones, you can take your pick. The pastel hued ones are my favourite. I try to stick to the montoned ones without prints which makes it easy for me accessorise. For me its like a blank palette ready to be painted with colors I like.

This peach maxi dress from Oxolloxo is perfect for the Sunday brunch. Its is light, breezy and I love the ruffled front. I have styled the look with a dark pink floral neckpiece from Forever 21. Instead of a necklace, you can also opt for a gold toned handcuff and statement earrings.

Since I wanted to keep my look subtle, I have paired my pink maxi dress with light blue sling bag from Forever new and red embellished ring from Style Fiesta.

what do you think about the look?

Five gorgeous fixes for a bad hair day

Kim Kardashian recently revealed that she goes up to five days without washing her hair. While some people (read me) might call that excessive, there is no denying the fact that we girls also go through similar spells of shampoo-less hair in a week or two. However, unlike Kim, we don’t have an entire crew of hairstylists waiting on us, to style our hair into a catwalk-ready frame. Since bad hair days are literally unavoidable, we give you a few secrets to effortless quick fixes which will make your hair look uber cool; we promise!!

Bad hair day #1- Beach waves

The day after a hair wash is when our hair has a nice texture to it. Hence, this is when tousled beach waves work best. Just spritz some texturizing hair spray (with some sea salt) in your hair and scrunch it. This will give volume and add definition to your waves. For straight hair, apply some curling cream and tie your hair in a bun. Before leaving the house, untie your hair and spray some salt induced spray and voila, you are ready with gorgeous mane.

Bad hair day #2- Fishtail Braid

This is one of the go-to styles when my hair is behaving particularly difficult. The fishtail braid is super cute, chic and looks elaborate though it just takes a few minutes. Watch Lauren from ‘One hills’ re-create this style for you.

Bad hair day #3- Messy Side bun

Messy side buns are perfect for date nights. Think a long day of work followed by a date or a fun night out with friends. It will take barely five mins and the best part- no perfection needed; the messier the better. Watch the below tutorial to know more.

Bad hair day #4- Top Knot

The top knot is one of the glamorous options for fixing a bad hair day. It requires zero effort and could be done on the go. What you need is a voluminizing spray, hair brush, hair pins and hair tie. Spritz your hair with your preferred spray, backcomb and tease your hair to get the desired volume. Pull your hair high up in a ponytail at the top of your head. Twist the hair and coil it around itself. Use bobby pins to keep it in place.

Bad hair day #5- Turban headband

Turban headbands are very boho chic and is a great way to style your unwashed hair. There are so many different ways by you could wear this- either let your hair loose and put the headband on or with a top knot; the possibilities are endless.

In addition to experimenting with tons of different hairstyles, dry shampoos are also a total rage currently. Just spray some dry shampoo on your hair and you are good to go. Alternatively, if you are looking to soak up the extra oil from you hair, rubbing a little baby powder to the roots will also work wonders for your mane.

We are loving ‘Charm story’ by Silvostyle

As my blog name suggests, I love charm bracelets. They are ultra feminine and delicate and holds a different meaning for everyone. Each charm tells a story which makes it so much fun. Hence its important to custom make it so that it defines the ‘real you’. Keeping this in mind, Silvostyle has launched a new jewellery line called “Links of Life”, where each charm is of special emotional significance to the person.  ‘Links of Life’ as the name suggests is all about keeping your life’s bitter-sweet life experiences, moments, symbolizing that they stay with you forever.

What’s not to love about these?

The charm bracelets are exquisite and you can add multiple personal decorative charms pendants which signify personal memories from your life.  You can choose, combine and create these charms according to their mood and outfit.  Charms ranging from mini handbags to iconic structures like the Eiffel tower, made in Murano glass & cubic zirconia.  They can also be added to your bracelet, chain, ring or earrings.
